Differences Between MBBS, Clinical Medicine and Basic Medicine

When it comes to the specialties related to medicine, people may think of clinical medicine, MBBS, basic medicine, etc. However, what’s the differences between these disciplines and what courses are included in theses majors respectively? Let’s figure it out!
Definitions
To find the differences between the three disciplines, we need to clarify their definitions first. So, what are clinical medicine, MBBS and basic medicine exactly?
Clinical medicine is one type of scientific medicine that gives more emphasis on practice. It focus on healing patients directly through diagnosis, treatment, surgery, prognosis and so on.
In contrast, basic medicine concentrate on studying the laws of human life and disease phenomena, and thus provide necessary theoretical support for clinical practice as part of the efforts to cure patients.
As for MBBS, it stands for Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and may be more comprehensive. In another word, MBBS combines both theoretical and practical knowledge. But in the strict sense, MBBS is a degree which include courses of clinical medicine.
In conclusion, clinical medicine and basic medicine mutually complement each other, while MBBS combines both of them.

Theoretically, basic medicine> MBBS> clinical medicine.
Practically, clinical medicine> MBBS> basic medicine.
Comprehensively, MBBS> clinical medicine> basic medicine
Courses
